English world

This page is about Brazil and has this name because it is written in English. But you do not need to skip it.Learn a little about Brazil.

Once uppon a time there was an island. At first it was called " ilha de Vera Cruz". An european arrived here and thought it was an island, his name was Pedro Alvares Cabral. For his surprise it was much bigger than just a small piece of land on the Atlantic Ocean. Around 300 tribes or more lived here, some of them canibals. They were really lucky not to have been eaten by those who loved white flash.

To fight off the european vision that this huge land, 8.512.000 square km, was "found out", we say nowadays it was invaded by some people who did not really know, at that time, where they were heading for. Searching for the paradise, through the vision of Cristovão Colombo, they accidentally foud it.

During the 16th century this place was actually a paradise. Some trees, animals, birds and natural landscape no longer exist, thank to the european need to transform natural resources in money. Not bad if some of that money could also have been invested here.

Many historians believe that most gold wich shape British coins have green and yellow colors. But it is so long ago that those colors have become red and blue. About five hundred ten years ago the owners of this land were so peaceful and natural that they would never fight for their ownership agains the guns wich came together with those men.

Unfortunatelly, europeans did not kill just nature. Today we find tribes in Amazon selling their
souls to Americans, Germans, Japanese, Europeans, all in the name of God. Just because they do not want to see their indian suns so poor in this new world.

Before D João VI, a portuguese king during seventeenth century, decided to move to Brazil and head his kingdown overseas, the spoken and written language was Tupi Guarany, Two tribes that had established a comon language and comerce. One more reason to say that this country already existed before europeans arrived here and can possibly explain why Brazilian people have so many problems related to portuguese grammar.
A new language was imposed on the people who already lived here and the former comunication was banned from society. Until today we can find names of fruit, trees, cities, streets and neghborhoods in tupi guarany.

Those tribes,Tupy and Guarany, were a well organized society, but didn´t have a strong army to defend their population against the guns that arrived here together with those outlaws who came from Europe.

In the begining, after taking over the land, Portuguese travelers needed people to work in the exploration of this huge territory. As those Indians found here were very difficult to command, Portuguese people prefered shot dead. Many of those original inhabitants who lived in tribes and used to pretect nature, died from diseases they had never had before such as syphilis, cholera, tuberculosis, etc. Extermination was gigantic and those who were not killed moved into the forest so that the man of evil, did not find them.

No good citizen of Portugal would leave the comfort offered by the metropolis to move to somewhere unknown and wild, then the authorities decided to release the dregs of that society to live free in Brazil. This could explain the origin of endemic corruption in the country.
The main idea was not to transform the territory into a place where people could live in society as it happened in the USA and other colonies in America. Basically what happened in Brazil was an exploration that lasts until today.

The problem to bring manpower meant that new alternatives should be sought, then starts the slave trade. Of course, Africa was the place where slavery was well developed and the population in Brazil began to grow dark.
